Sport

Mass participation is encouraged at De Hoop, for we believe that each learner should lead a balanced life.

De Hoop has about 73 hockey teams, ranging from u. 7 to u. 13. We focus on mass participation in all age groups. Our coaches are dedicated and their hard work is evident in the fact that many of our players are selected yearly for WP teams.
De Hoop encourages all its learners to participate in cross country activities. Our coaches are competent and can train athletes from beginners through to provincial level.
Several De Hoop cricketers are selected annually for regional teams in both the u. 11 and u. 13 age groups. Our well-kept cricket fields are suitable and equipped for day and night matches. The cricket culture in De Hoop forms a solid base where cricketers are introduced to hard ball cricket from as young as u. 9.
Learners can participate in chess from Grade1 to 7. Our qualified coaches encourage learners to develop to the best of their abilities in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. De Hoop’s chess teams are a force to reckon with in the Western Province.
De Hoop’s learners enjoy athletics and participate in large numbers. Our athletes compete at a variety of meetings in all age groups and we are proud to produce provincial athletes on a yearly basis.
De Hoop has its own beautiful swimming pool where learners can train to their hearts’ delight. We strive to create a love for the sport and encourage learners to perform to their full potential. Our many swimming teams compete at a vast number of galas in the Helderberg and Western Province.
Netball at De Hoop is open to all the girls in the school. We teach the skills and technique applicable to the game, but also place a lot of emphasis on ethics and fair play. Our teams are coached by qualified as well as assistant coaches, thus ensuring high standards. Above all, we want our girls to enjoy netball and develop a lifelong love for the sport.
Every De Hoop boy has the opportunity to enjoy and play rugby. We focus on specialised coaching and strive towards cultivating healthy and competitive sportsmanship in all our players. Correct skills and techniques are developed from an early age and we aim to develop a lifelong love for the game.
De Hoop’s well-maintained tennis courts have a stunning view of the mountains and sea. Every learner from Grade 2 to 7 has the opportunity to pursue their tennis passion. Our players compete against a vast number of schools in the region, and our teams also embark on several tours every year. One of the highlights on the calendar is the annual Sun City Tournament, which we have won several times in the past.
Indoor hockey at De Hoop is always fun. Unfortunately we do not have the facilities to allow mass participation. A grade 6 and 7 boys and girls A-team are entered in the Helderberg League and the highlight is the finals in the first term of each year.

We are proud of our school’s many provincial and national champions.
